Clarinet bboard - Buffet learned to make a clarinet that played in tune for the first time in the mid 1950s, and up till that time there was no huge advantage in switching from B+H instruments. By the mid 1980s, Buffet ruled the UK: it just took that long for players unwilling to switch to be replaced by the younger generation.

 
The notation on the barrel just says that the barrel was designed for a Bb clarinet (as opposed to ine in the key of A) and that the length is 66 mm. Nothing sinister there.
